Diagnostic Breast Imaging

Diagnostic Breast Imaging is performed for women who have a breast problem such as a lump, nipple discharge, pain, previous breast cancer or breast implants. It is also often done as a follow up to an abnormal screening mammogram. Brooke Radiology offers Diagnostic Mammography and Breast Ultrasound at our Kingsway location in Burnaby and Breast Ultrasound only at our location at No 3 Road in Richmond.

Diagnostic Breast Imaging procedures require a referral from your doctor. Prior to booking the examinations the requisition must be faxed to the location of your choice. Patients will be called with an appointment after the requisition is received.

It is very important that we know if you have had previous breast imaging studies and, if you have, when and where they were done. In diagnostic breast imaging it is essential to compare your current exams to previous studies in order to confirm stability or growth of any findings. Please make sure you inform your family physician of this information so that it can be included on the requisition.

When you come for your appointment please bring your Care Card.

Diagnostic Mammography

Diagnostic Mammograms are specialized breast x-rays for women with specific breast problems.

Breast Ultrasound

Breast ultrasound is often used to evaluate breast abnormalities that are found with screening or diagnostic mammography or when your physician performs a clinical breast exam. Ultrasound is excellent at distinguishing between solid tumors and fluid filled cysts. It can also be used to evaluate lumps or masses that are hard to see on a mammogram.
